CHAPTER 98: April 15, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: YOUNG RICH WIDOWS by Kimberly Belle.

May 3, 2026

ROUTE: Charlotte, NC to Burton, MI: 671 miles

Wednesday April 15th, I started my day at 9:30am and drove three hours to the previous consignee that in this assignment was the same as the shipper therefore no deadhead miles. The trip requires around eleven drive hours but it took me twelve-and-half due to traffic. I left at 2:30pm and drove an hour to a Flying J truck stop a Big Mac meal lunch and an overdue shower. From there I drove another three hours and shut it down for the night at 9:30pm.

Thursday April 16th, my destination was changed to our terminal in Canton, MI, as my truck needed to have its 20,000 mile maintenance service. A Local Driver would deliver the load. I had another load waiting for me at the terminal going back to Charlotte, NC, for Monday delivery. I started my day at 10:30am and arrived at the terminal at 10:30pm after driving eight-and-half hours and taking a couple of short breaks including a stop for fuel.

BOOK REVIEW: Young Rich Widows by Kimberly Belle, Layne Fargo, Cate Holahan & Vanessa Lillie (2024), THRILLER – RATING (****)

An entertaining and at times funny story of how the lives of four women come together after their significant others die in a suspicious plane crash. It has many twists-and-turns as the women find out more about their partners including deals with a mafia gangster demanding immediate payment of $4MM owed to him.

The four partners of a prestigious Rhode Island law firm are late arriving at the firm’s annual holiday party. They were supposed to be attending a meeting locally regarding the construction of a shopping mall that was going to make them rich. They were not supposed to be flying back from New York City in a private jet. Everyone at the party is in shock when the police come to inform the wives of the tragedy. More shocking is when a local mafia boss demands payment from them of an exorbitant amount by New Year’s Day, a mere week away. The mall’s developer is also looking for a report that one of the partners had and won’t lend the widows the money they need to pay until he gets it.

Justine, Meredith, Camille and Krystle hate each other but soon realize that they need to find the money and figure out what really happened to their partners. Their lives and the lives of their family members are in danger. Their backgrounds are completely different which makes the narrative quite amusing. One is a stripper, another a trophy wife, the third is the stereotypical stay at home mom and the fourth an overpowering woman that believes her husband was the backbone of the firm. She doesn’t agree that the firm should be split equally among them as the firm’s succession bylaws state.

There’s a bunch of side stories that add to the amusement and suspense. The mafia boss who also owns the strip bar has his goons harass the women. A hit man is after them. A jewelry owner that is also involved in the plot and whatever that infamous report is all about. It has a surprising ending.
