CHAPTER 174: September 29, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: THINGS WE DO IN THE DARK by Jennifer Hillier.

October 13, 2026

MEMPHIS, TN to OAK HARBOR, OH: 690 miles

Tuesday September 29th, I arrived at the shipper at 2:30pm and left at 4:30pm as it was a life load. I drove two-and-a-half hour to stop for dinner at the Loretta Lynn restaurant with a quick stop for fuel. Another AD Transport driver had raved about it and I was curious. It has truck parking but no 24/7 bathroom. I prefer the Log Cabin restaurant that is in the same exit and the Pilot truck stop is across the street. After dinner I drove another two-and-a-half hours and shut it down for the night at 11:00pm at a rest area. It was late and I didn’t know the truck stops in the area. It’s easier to park in the rest areas.

Wednesday September 30th, I started my day at noon with the pre-trip inspection of the truck and drove fifteen-minutes down the road for breakfast. The main issue with rest areas is that there is no food service. Afterwards I drove six hours and shut it down for the night at 8:00pm at a Sheetz in New Baltimore, OH, that I knew which normally has ample parking and 24/7 food service.

Thursday October 1st, I started my day at 8:00am with the pre-trip inspection of the truck and drove an hour to the consignee arriving at 9:30am.

BOOK REVIEW: Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier (2022), THRILLER – RATING (****)

A suspenseful psychological thriller full of twist-and-turns with a surprising ending.

Paris Peralta comes home from a trip to Canada to find her husband, Jimmy Peralta, dead in the bathtub. In her panic she tries to lift him out of the bathtub slipping and hitting her head falling unconscious. When police arrive at the scene she’s drenched in his blood holding an old fashion single blade razor. She’s the prime suspect as the scene is unclear whether it’s a suicide or murder.

Paris is much younger than her celebrity wealthy husband that recently embarked on a comeback tour. The court of public opinion see her as a gold digger cashing in on a big payout. Paris is more worried about her past catching up with her than this murder charge. She needs to figure out what really happened to Jimmy before her secrets come out. A Canadian inmate known as the Ice Queen is blackmailing Paris in order to not reveal what she is dearly hiding.

Fast paced and very entertaining.
