CANTON, MI to MEMPHIS, TN: 790 miles (730 loaded + 60 deadhead)
Sunday September 27th, I had arrived at our terminal at 1:00am so I could not leave before 11:00 due to the ten-hour DOT Regulation break. The delivery was set for Tuesday so I had the option of staying at the terminal until Monday at 11:00am and do a thirty-four hour reset or head out to Memphis right away. I decided to go for it and deliver on Monday that way I could accumulate more miles for the week. When I was half way down to Memphis I glanced at the the DOT clocks on my tablet and realized that I only had sixteen hours left on my seventy-hour DOT clock. I was six hours away from Memphis that meant that after dropping off the load I would only have ten-hours left. Michigan would be twelve-hours away and I would only pick up hours on Tuesday at midnight. If I dropped off the load it meant I would be stranded somewhere on Monday. I like the Pilot truck stop in Hurricane Mills, TN, it has easy parking, a great restaurant across the street and free WiFi inside. I decided to do the thirty-four hour reset there and start with a new seventy-hour DOT clock on Tuesday. I arrived at the Pilot at midnight so I could only start again on Tuesday at 10:00am.
Tuesday September 29th, I started my day at 10:00am with the pre-trip of the truck. I drove two-and-a-half hours to the consignee arriving at 1:00pm EST.
BOOK REVIEW: Vanished on Vacation by Jenifer Ruff (2024). THRILLER – RATING (*****)
A suspenseful thriller set in a Mexican luxury beach resort with the backdrop of the travel restrictions imposed during COVID. Book 6 in the Heslin series, a strong FMC, but can be read as a stand-alone.
Three college seniors fly down to Mexico to celebrate one of their birthdays. The day before their return Avery Jennings goes missing not to be seen again. The Mexican authorities invite the FBI to assist with the investigation and Special Agent Victoria Heslin and her partner are sent down. The Federales initially are very cooperative but then seem to be staling. Heslin takes matters into her own hands even if she’s putting herself in harms way.
There are many twists and turns that keep the story interesting and very entertaining.
