LINDEN, NJ to ROMULUS, MI: 800 miles (600 loaded + 200 deadhead)
Tuesday September 22nd, I had requested Monday off to attend a Lucy Foley book event in NYC. I started my day at 10:15am with the pre-trip inspection of the truck then proceeded to fuel at the Pilot truck stop in Milford, CT, where I had parked the truck since Saturday and serves as my home base. The drive to Linden, NJ, took three hours due to traffic but I got to see a United plane land at Newark airport and the Manhattan skyline. I arrived at the shipper at 2:30pm and left at 5:00pm as the loading took a little over two hours. This was a heavy load and the truck’s weight came in at 72,360lbs out of the 80K maximum DOT Regulations allowed. I drove four hours to the Kavkaz Restaurant in Loganton, PA, for dinner and shut it down at 9:00pm. I went through the Lehigh Tunnel which brought memories of watching my daughter compete for the Lehigh University track team at nearby Bethlehem, PA.
Wednesday September 23rd, I started my day at 7:45am after the minimum ten-hour DOT Regulation break with the pre-trip inspection of the truck. I drove a little over seven hours arriving at the consignee at 4:00pm with a short break along the way.
BOOK REVIEW: True Believer by Jack Carr (2019), THRILLER – RATING (****)
A great sequel to The Terminal List but can be read as a stand-alone.
Lt Comander James Reece has sailed across half the world to hide in Mozambique. He’s waiting for his eminent death from a brain tumor caused by illicit experiments by greedy individuals in the US Government. He’s a wanted man for the deadly revenge he imposed on those responsible for the death of his men in combat, his family and his tumor. The CIA finds him but doesn’t kill him or bring him back to face justice. Instead, they offer a full presidential pardon if he can help them track a terrorist with sinister plans that have global repercussions. With the help of his CIA handler and their undercover asset they’re able to track down the terrorist’s plans but are they too late to stop it?
Very entertaining with heart pounding action scenes.
