CHAPTER 146: July 26, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: LEFT TO DIE by Blake Pierce.

August 18, 2026

WOODRUFF, SC to WILMINGTON, IL: 720 miles.

Sunday July 26th, I arrived at the shipper at 7:00pm which happened to be the same as the previous consignee. This makes my job so much easier. I left at 8:30pm and best to just shut it down for the night at a nearby truck stop. Traveling further would just make finding parking more difficult and the delivery was scheduled for Tuesday at noon anyway so I had time. The truck stop was full but I know where to find a Creative Parking spot though it required parallel parking a 74 foot truck. The food service is 24/7 and I was hungry so picked up a cheese melt sandwich with ham.

Monday July 27th, I started my day at 10:00am with the pre-trip inspection of the truck and drove eight hours with several short stops including one for fuel and another at a Mexican restaurant for lunch. I shut it down for the night at 8:30pm.

Tuesday July 28th, I started my day at 8:30am with the pre-trip inspection of the truck and drove five hours to the consignee passing some impressive wind farms along the way. I arrived at 1:30pm and since I did not have another assignment lined up I drove the truck down the block to a TA Truck Stop and shut it down for the night at 3:00pm.

BOOK REVIEW: Left to Die by Blake Pierce (2020), THRILLER – RATING (****)

FBI Special Agent Adele Sharp is in hot pursuit of a serial killer who’s signature is to incapacitate his victims and then let them bleed to death. Her pursuit takes her from the US to several European countries facilitated by the three nationalities she possesses: US, French and German. There’s a slew of secondary characters that maintain the suspense and Adele’s personal history whose mom was murdered many years before in Paris.

Overall very entertaining.
