CHAPTER 164: September 7, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: THE LAST TIME I LIED by Riley Sager.

September 28, 2026

CANTON, MI to MEMPHIS, TN: 785 miles (740 loaded + 45 deadhead)

Friday September 4th, it was Labor Day Weekend and my last assignment ended on Friday at 10:00am. I drove an hour to our terminal where the trailer for this assignment was ready to go and I would shut it down. Because of the holiday the delivery was scheduled for Tuesday morning, so I would only be leaving on Monday. The trip required twelve hours drive time.

Saturday and Sunday, I was hanging out at the terminal doing errands of food shopping and laundry. I spent most of the time at a nearby Panera where I could work on the revisions of my book in peace and quite. There’s free WiFi, good food and they don’t mind people hanging out there for hours.

Monday September 7th, I started my day at 11:00am with the pre-trip inspection of the truck then I fueled and topped off the DEF tank. I drove nine-and-a-half hours and shut it down for the night at 11:00pm at the Pilot in Hurricane Mills, TN. They have easy parking even late at night. On my way down I came across a van that was on fire on the side of the highway. When I arrived at the Pilot there were two ambulances by the car gas pumps. It seems someone was in need of medical assistance.

Tuesday September 8th, I started my day at 10:00am with the pre-trip inspection of the truck after the minimum ten hour DOT Regulation break. I drove two-and-a-half hours to the consignee arriving at noon EST.

BOOK REVIEW: The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager (2018), THRILLER – RATING (*****)

A suspenseful psychological thriller that had me guessing wrong the whole time. The narrative is logical and the final twists completely unpredictable.

Emma Davis, a successful painter, is haunted by the events of a dreadful final night at summer camp fifteen-years earlier when she was thirteen. That night her three roommates sneaked out of their cabin in the middle of the night and vanished. Never to be seen or heard from again.

The camp, owned by a wealthy family, closed that night and has just reopened. The owner persuades Emma to be part of the reopening staff working as an art instructor. Emma needs closure and accepts the offer. She also wants to figure out what happened to her friends.

Very entertaining.
