CHAPTER 128: June 18, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: THE WIDOWER by D.L. Fisher.

July 12, 2026

HAMLET, IN to MAUMEE, OH: 284 miles (184 loaded + 100 deadhead)

Thursday June 18th, I spent the night at the previous consignee. Some facilities allow for overnight stay which is very nice of them and convenient for drivers. I started my day at 11:30am and did the pre-trip inspection of the truck. I drove three hours to this shipper. It should have taken less as it was only 100 miles but there was traffic and road closures due to work that extended the distance and forced me to use small local roads that were not suited for an eighteen-wheel truck.

I left the shipper at 4:30pm and made two stops before arriving at the consignee. The first at a McDonalds for lunch and the other at an Ohio Travel Plaza for a shower. These have a Truckers’ Lounge with free showers. Technically anyone can use them but few apart from truckers know they exist.

I arrived at the consignee at 9:30pm. I was traveling eastbound so caught a pretty sunset on my side mirror. This is a 24/7 facility so I knew that I just needed to arrive before midnight. My next assignment was taking a load from there so I decided to spend the night at their facility. Two nights in a row sleeping at a client’s terminal.

BOOK REVIEW: The Widower by D.L. Fisher (2025), THRILLER – RATING (****)

A suspenseful thriller sequel to The Stepson but can be read as a stand-alone novel though best to read in sequence.

Carrie, her husband Bennet and her stepson TJ are back at the center of attention of another missing teenage girl from their exclusive gated community in Armonk, NY. In addition to the nosy neighbor, Marnie, there’s a new intriguing character, Damian. The widower neighbor that just moved in next door to Carrie.

There are plenty of twist-and-turns to shift the focus of culpability from TJ to the new neighbor or maybe a third party not yet identified.

Overall entertaining.
