CHAPTER 125: June 12, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: THE REBOUND by Leeanne Slade.

July 3, 2026

MEBANE, NC to CANTON, MI: 620 miles

Friday June 12th, I arrived at the shipper at 10:30pm which was the same place as the previous consignee. This is a 24/7 facility and all assignments are drop-and-hook. They allow overnight stay so I could have spent the night there but I wanted to reach our terminal on Saturday so it would be best to make a little headway back that evening. Also, their bathrooms close at 11:00pm. I left there at 11:30pm, drove an hour to a nearby Love’s truck stop and shut it down at 12:30am.

Saturday June 13th, I started my day at 1:30pm with the pre-trip inspection of the truck. I drove ten hours and fifty-eight minutes, just under the eleven hours per day allowed by DOT Regulations with a couple of stops along the way including the mandatory thirty minute DOT Regulations break before reaching the eight-hour driving threshold. Good thing I drove that one hour the day before otherwise I would not have made it due to heavy traffic on the route. I shut it down at 1:30am. The delivery was scheduled for Tuesday morning in Browntown, MI, which is near Canton so a Local Driver would deliver it.

BOOK REVIEW: The Rebound by Leeanne Slate (2023), ROMANCE – RATING (*****)

A lighthearted and amusing romance novel with a strong FMC that discovers much about herself while trying to overcome the fear she has toward marriage caused by her parents’ divorce and provoke by her boyfriend’s proposal.

Kitty Harris, the protagonist, is a twenty-seven year old marketing professional that has been living with her boyfriend, Archie, for the past seven years. She left home at seventeen year old after her parent’s bitter divorce that left her afraid of commitment. His proposal sends her into panic mode. They agree to postpone the decision until the end of the summer, six weeks away, and revisit the question on September 1st.

The struggling ad agency where she works is pitching a huge account that could provide the end of their financial problems and give them the recognition they seek. Kitty is in charge of the pitch that is also due on September 1st. Her nemesis, Leo, from their main competitor suggests that they have a pretend rebound romance for the summer. It’s a win-win situation as he’s also distraught from his recent divorce of a fourteen year marriage.

Obviously things don’t go as planned but Kitty discovers much about herself and her insecurities while spending time with Leo. Archie is just another spoiled rich kid that wants his way and not concerned with Kitty’s needs or supportive of her career. There are a series of secondary characters that enhance the subplots.

Overall very entertaining.
