CHAPTER 110: May 11, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: WE ARE ALL GUILTY HERE by Karin Slaughter.

May 30, 2026

ROUTE: Spartanburg, SC to Wilmington, IL: 814 miles (704 loaded + 110 deadhead)

Monday May 11th, I arrived at the shipper at 2:00pm after starting my day at 10:00am, driving two hours to the last consignee and making a stop for fuel. I left at 4:00pm and scaled the load at a nearby truck stop coming in at 76,200lbs. These shipments of tires tend to be heavy. Afterwards I drove six hours to a truck stop in Kentucky that has a 24/7 diner and easy parking. I shut it down at 10:00pm but was too tired to have dinner.

Tuesday May 12th, I started my day at 11:00am after performing the pre-trip inspection of the truck and having a bacon egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. I drove eight hours with a 90 minute break for lunch on route. The consignee is a 24/7 facility and the load is a drop-and-hook so I just need to arrive by midnight to complete the assignment on time. The drive through Indiana is quite beautiful with the many wind-farms by the side of the road. I also got a nice sunsets on both evenings of the trip. There’s a large truck stop across the street from this facility that always has easy parking. I shut it down for the night at 9:30pm.

The trip should have taken around twelve-hours but took fourteen due to road work traffic.

BOOK REVIEW: We Are All Guilty Here by Karin Slaughter (2025), THRILLER – RATING (****)

A suspenseful thriller that starts following the life of two unhappy fifteen year olds that want to escape their mundane life. Then it becomes a meticulous police investigation on their July 4th abduction during the town’s fireworks celebration. It morphs in the pursuit of a serial killer(s) and within all that there’s an intense drama of the principal’s family.

Emily Clifton is the Deputy Sheriff of a small town. She’s the youngest of four, by a large margin, of the Sheriff’s kids. The two eldest are dead, one by drowning the other in a car accident. Gerald Clifton, the Sheriff is grooming his daughter to follow in his footsteps. He’s wise and methodical. Jude Archer is a retiring FBI Agent living in San Francisco focused on serial killers and has a past secret that ties her to this small town. The narrative of the police work to capture the perpetrators is captivating but the excessive information about crime statistics, especially dealing with teenager’s abductions gives a darker edge to the story but does not derail the narrative.

Overall very entertaining.
