I left there at 6:00pm and drove four hours to I-84 Diner where I was planning to have dinner but arrived at 10:00pm just when they were about to close. Fortunately, I’ve been there so many times that I’m friendly with the manager who took pity on me and gave me a large house salad to eat in the truck.
Wednesday June 3rd, I started my day with a hearty breakfast of a Western omelet and fresh squeezed OJ then did the pre-trip inspection of the truck and headed at 9:00am. BOOK REVIEW: The Shallows by Holly Craig (2023), THRILLER – RATING (****)
A slow burn suspenseful thriller about a murder mystery and a family fleeing to avoid being implicated or for more sinister reasons.
The story is narrated from the point of view of Emma, a stay at home mom with two kids and a privileged life in Sydney, Australia. She becomes friendly with her new neighbor, Ariella, and quickly assumes the role of protector from her overpowering husband. Emma is trapped in a loveless marriage with Charles that owns a personal security company. She sees much of herself in Ariella that is in a toxic relationship with Matteo, a controlling husband that owns a bunch of seedy strip-bars and other shady business endeavors that seem illegal in nature.
Ariella is murdered and Emma’s daughter, Kiki, inadvertently captures the moment on video.
Overall entertaining with an unlikely ending.
