ROUTE: Ypsilanti, MI to Longhorne, PA: 619 miles (606 loaded + 13 deadhead)
Thursday April 9th, I started my day at 10:00am. The previous assignment ended dropping off the load at our terminal the night before as the delivery appointment was for next week so a Local Driver would deliver it. I did the pre-trip procedures and used our truck wash as the owner prides himself in having his trucks clean on the road. The shipper was a quick fifteen minutes away and though it was a simple drop-and-hook it takes times to park and find the correct trailer. I left the shipper at 12:30pm and drove two hours to an I-80 Travel Plaza for a nap and lunch. I was still tired from the previous assignment. From there I drove five-and-half hours to the Sheetz Truck Stop in Buckhorn, PA. I like it there because it’s relatively easy to park and they have 24/7 food service. I shut it down for the night at 10:00pm.
Friday April 10th, I started my day at 11:00am after completing the pre-trip procedures and drove three hours to the consignee arriving at 2:00pm.
BOOK REVIEW: The Private Island by Ali Lowe (2025), THRILLER – RATING (****)
A cleverly written murder mystery set in a luxury resort on a remote island in Fiji. The characters are well described with the good ones very likable and the villain despicable.
The extremely wealthy and obnoxious Luella St John-Gray and her husband Benedict are spending a New Year’s luxurious one week vacation on this lovely island. There are a slew of other characters that are there as well with nefarious motives. Fergus and Kitty Miller. He knows Benedict from university and is trying to get him to invest in his startup but he’s ill mannered and pushy annoying Luella. Thomasons Delana is Luella’s estranged half-sister. After their father’s passing Luella cut her out of the Will leaving her remorseful and penniless. Dr. Sofia Barthelèmy is an ER doctor and has secrets of her own related to Luella. A mom and her fifteen-year-old daughter. Then there are the hotel staff that play a pivotal role. The manager, the head housekeeper, the two young men in charge of the aquatic activities and others. Many people on the island despise Luella, even the hotel staff, but are they capable of killing her? However, there is more than one dead body in this story.
Suspenseful and entertaining with passages that evoke such a paradise location. Some things are far fetched, specially the diving incident that is later clarified but still makes little sense.
