CHAPTER 88: March 26, 2026 Assignment and Book Review: BEG, BORROW, OR STEAL by Sarah Adams.

April 7, 2026

ROUTE: Clayton, IN to Lansing, MI: 280 miles

There wasn’t any deadhead miles on this assignment as both the previous consignee and this shipper were in the same town, actually a mere of blocks away from each other. However, the previous assignment ended on the 25th in the evening and I spent the night at a nearby truck stop as this was a morning pickup.

March 26th, I started my day at 9:30am as the pickup was scheduled for 10:00am. It was the first time I had been to this shipper though I’ve been many times to the consignee. The email directions I received indicated the Shipping Office was on the South side of the building though the main entrance was on the North side. Two other AD Transport drivers arrived at the same time and none of us had been there before. After driving back and forth we realized that most of the shipping is from the North side but one of us had his pickup on the South side. The North side are drop-and-hook while the South side are a live-load. The shipper required a lot of information to be completed on the sign-in form which delayed the pickup but they gave out two free snacks from the vending machine, which was very nice token of appreciation to truckers.

I finally left the shipper at 12:30pm and the trip should have only taken five hours or so as the distance was short but I encountered traffic slowing down the trip to seven drive-hours. I had to stop for fuel so I arrived at the consignee at 9:00pm.

The next assignment was a pickup in Newport, MI, the next day which is south of Lansing and our terminal is in route so I spent the night there which was an opportunity for a shower and to do laundry.

BOOK REVIEW: Beg, Borrow, or Steal by Sarah Adams (2025), ROMANCE – RATING (*****)

An entertaining classic enemies-to-lovers trope romance novel set in a quaint town in Kentucky.

Emily Walker and Jack Bennet attend the same college and immediately hate each other after a chance encounter. A feud that goes on for ten-years as both end up teaching second grade in Emily’s small town. There’s very funny banter between them though the many emails are annoying listening on the audiobook version. There are twist-and-turns that are heartwarming. Both characters are well described and very likable.

There are a bunch of secondary characters that add much color to the story. Emily’s three siblings, Jack’s parents and the many town folk.
