ROUTE: Woodburn, IN to Woodruff, SC: 611 miles (no deadhead on this trip).
The shipper was the same as the consignee from the last assignment, therefore no miles of deadhead. I shut down the previous night at 11:30pm after a fourteen-hour workday.
Wednesday March 4th, the load wasn’t going to be ready before noon so I slept in and started my day with a Big Mac meal at 11:00am. The route goes through six states: Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and finally South Carolina. I hit the road at 3:30pm and drove six hours to a truck stop in Kentucky that has a twenty-four hour diner and plenty of parking. I shut it down for the night at 9:30pm and had a bacon cheeseburger with fries for dinner.
Thursday March 5th, I started my day with a bacon-egg-cheese breakfast sandwich and a Red Bull. I had a six hour drive to the consignee and along the way I stopped for fuel. I made it to the consignee at 5:30pm. I didn’t have my next assignment yet so I went to a nearby truck stop and shut it down for the night.
BOOK REVIEW: The Love Haters by Katherine Center (2025), ROMANCE – RATING (*****)
A highly entertaining light hearted romance novel with many funny dialogues that had me laughing out loud. Sublime messaging about relationships, grief and self esteem are scattered throughout the story.
Katie Vaughn is worried about losing her job and her personal life is in turmoil as well. Her company is going through a corporate downsizing laying off 30% of the personnel and she’s worried about losing her job. She’s offered a great opportunity to do a promotional recruitment video for the Coast Guard. Tom Hutchinson, Hutch, will be the focus of the video. He’s a rescue diver with a heroic past. He’s a handsome hero but somewhat reclusive that shies from the spotlight. Obviously sparks fly between them but their relationship is hampered by family matters and a Hurricane Category Five that is making landfall where they are.
Despite a predictable Hollywood happy ending it kept my interest throughout with twist-and-turns and I found myself rooting for Katie and Hutch.
