ROUTE: Cleveland, OH to Southfield, MI: 241 miles (182 loaded + 59 deadhead)
This was a short assignment but I couldn’t complain as I had just come off back-to-back ones each in excess of 1,000 miles. Anyway it was bringing me back to Michigan and I was still having problems with the last dental procedure. The temporary bridge installed in my the lower right side of my mouth was either breaking or the cement was not keeping it in place.
Tuesday 02/03 I made the delivery on time at 08:30 but getting the truck into the unloading dock was a nightmare. The whole process took close to three hours. The shipper of this assignment was opened until 14:00 and the distance between the two was a mere hour trip so the delay at consignee was not a problem. I arrived at 12:30 and it took about an hour to load the trailer. The delivery appointment was scheduled for 02/20 at noon. I was instructed to bring the trailer to our terminal and a Local Driver would make the delivery on the 20th. Therefore I was not in a rush and I made an appointment with the dentist for Wednesday at 08:00.
It’s cool to go through Cleveland as I drove by Progressive Stadium home of the NFL Browns. I was hungry since I only had a lite breakfast at 08:00. I stopped at an Ohio Travel Plaza that has a Panda Express. About an hour later I stopped at a Pilot truck stop to buy diesel fuel supplement that we add when the temperature is in the single digits and not available at the terminal where I would refuel.
I arrived at the terminal at 20:00 with a full moon lighting up the company’s yard. After dropping off the trailer I swung by the shop because my bumper needed to be replaced as it was damaged the previous week in icy roads from Michigan on route to Florida. To my surprise the shop got it done immediately. Afterwards I went to a nearby Chipotle to get a steak burrito for dinner.
BOOK REVIEW: How I Know White People are Crazy and Other Stories: Notes From a Frustrated Black Psychologist (2025), NON-FICTION – RATING (**)
TERRIBLE!
The introduction chapter is scary. I was appalled that this was going to be a racist book geared toward white privilege. The author abuses the use of the word whiteness as to denote everything that’s wrong with this world. He also abuses the category Global Majority. I was not familiar with either of those terms though I’m of the global majority as a Latino. I did not agree with his interpretation of the term whiteness.
The tone is bitter and arrogant. In the final chapter we also learn that his entire arguments are hypocritical as by his personal choice of romantic partner represents what he despises from the concept of whiteness.
Undoubtedly black gay men have it more difficult than heterosexual white men in our society but he was able to overcome and achieve success. Instead of praising his endurance to beat the system the whole narrative is as if he was defeated by it.
