ROUTE: Arnold, MO to Paris, KY: 411 miles (366 loaded + 45 deadhead)
A short assignment but not all of them are going to be 1,000+ miles. I still needed to drive five hours on the 10th to make the delivery of the previous assignment. My day 06:30 and after making the delivery and driving to the shipper I had used up six of my eleven drive hours. After loading I was starting this assignment at 16:00 and had five hours left for driving but only four hours left on the fourteen-hour work day. I drove three-and-half hours to a truck stop and ended my day after thirteen-and-half hours for the work day.
On the 11th I started my day at 07:30 taking an extra hour of sleep above the minimum ten hour break. Driving through Kentucky is fun as there are many horse farms visible from the road. My destination was Paris, KY and I spent a couple days this summer in the real Paris, France. The consignee had a unique dock where the truck was adjacent to the one of the walls of the farm type structure and required a 180 turn at the end of their very tight driveway. Dining options were very limited on this trip.
BOOK REVIEW: Never Flinch by Stephen King (2025), FICTION – RATING (****)
Two stories running parallel to each other. The police is tracking down a serial killer that has some sort of revenge plot due to the conviction of an innocent man that is murdered while imprisoned. The second story follows a popular Pro-Choice advocate that has a religious fanatic stalking and threatening to kill her. The link between the two stories is subtle at the beginning and focussed on the protagonist, Holly. She’s a private investigator that is helping her good friend, a police detective, to track the serial killer. Soon afterwards she is hired as private security for the Pro-Choice advocate. Eventually the stories collide in full force.
Mr. King has decided to express his Pro-Choice support through a fictional novel and I have no problem with that. Just wished he did not have to make the villain so influenced by his religious believes. There are other reasons people support the Pro-Life argument.
The book is remarkably well written, not a surprise from Mr. King’s outstanding literary accomplishments. The good guys are likable and have excellent chemistry among them. The villains are repulsive.
Overall entertaining.
