CHAPTER 39: December 05, 2025 Assignment and Book Review: Blood River by C.E. Nelson

December 14, 2025

ROUTE: Canton, MI to Windsor, CT: 743 miles (716 loaded + 27 deadhead)

THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM! This is my third consecutive assignment doing Newport, MI to/from Windsor, CT. This time around I was picking up the load in Newport on a Friday and it delivered on Monday morning. It only requires a day-and-half of travel so I would do a reset at our terminal in Canton. The truck needed its 20,000 Preventive Maintenance (PM) so I got paid for the mileage from the shipper to the terminal. In addition to the PM I managed a shower, re-fuel, laundry and better food than one available on the road.

BOOK REVIEW: Blood River by C.E. Nelson (2017), FICTION – RATING (****)

A new sheriff is sworn in a week early to deal with a double homicide then quickly turns into a serial killer investigation in a quite remote peaceful area of Minnesota. The main character is very likable and the author manages to squeeze in a romance and sexual tension with a secondary character.

The plot is highly unlikely and the twists are not earth shattering but overall the pace flows naturally and it’s entertaining.
