CHAPTER 37: 12/02/25 Assignment and Book Review: Brazen Virtue by Nora Roberts

December 8, 2025

ROUTE: Newport, MI to Windsor, CT: 713 miles (693 loaded + 20 deadhead)

The previous assignment ended on 12/02 at 14:30 in Romulus, MI. The delivery for this assignment was open for Wednesday 12/03 by 17:00 or Thursday 12/04 at 09:00. It requires twelve drive hours so cannot be done in one day. I could technically make it on Wednesday by 17:00 but I needed to fuel and wanted to pickup my prescriptions refills at the Walmart pharmacy. I could do both by stopping at our terminal in Canton, MI, so I choose to deliver on the fourth. It was a detour of about 15 miles but I received authorization to do so. I had until 21:00 to pick up the load.

I arrived at the shipper at 19:00 and planned to drive three hours to the Petro in Girard, OH. I could drive at a more leisurely pace on Wednesday and deliver it first thing Thursday. Normally, I can drive six-to-seven hours without stopping without a problem and there are days when I need to take a break every two hours. Wednesday was one of those days that forced me to multiple stops. I decided to shut it down at the I-84 Diner in Fishkill, NY which was two hours from the consignee and where I could enjoy a good meal for dinner and the next day for breakfast.

Thursday 12/04 I made the delivery as per the appointment time of 09:00.

BOOK REVIEW: Brazen Virtue by Nora Roberts (1988), FICTION – (****)

Entertaining. A mixture of murder mystery and romance novel. There are some serious plot issues but OK to ignore as the narrative kept me interested. The characters are well described and have good chemistry among them. The main ones are likable and easy to relate to. A predictable Hollywood happy ending.
