ROUTE: York, PA to Findlay, OH then Port Huron, MI: 695 miles (674 loaded + 74 deadhead)
This was a shitty assignment, but sometimes that’s the luck of the draw. The miles were good the problem is that it was two stops and each one would take two hours to unload. The bigger problem was that the first stop was roughly 420 miles but the appointment was scheduled for the following day at 06:00 and those are appointments are set in stone. The assignment would require two days when it could be done in one.
There is a good eatery, I-83 Diner, very close to the shipper so I decided to spend the night there and had a nice beef tips over fettuccine and a side salad for dinner. For breakfast, on 11/05, I had a Western omelet. Since I was in no hurry I overslept forcing me to drive seven hours straight to the next overnight spot I had chosen. It was a McDonalds with truck parking that was a mere 30 minutes from the consignee. There I had a Big Mac meal for dinner.
The next day, 11/06, I would be departing at 05:30, too early for their breakfast. After making the first delivery at 06:00 which took two hours as projected I need to fuel and had a slice of pepperoni pizza, a coffee and a red bull. From there it was a three hour drive to the next stop which I arrived promptly for the noon appointment. The unload took three hours and from there it was an hour drive to pick up the next load which I was relaying back to our yard, an hour away. Then to pick up my load for the next assignment, which was a short ten minutes away.
My day started at 05:00 and ended at 20:00. I managed to overcome the fourteen hour DOT Regulation because I managed a Split when I had to do the a two-hour idle break on the first delivery but I was exhausted.
BOOK REVIEW: The Book of Sheen: A Memoir by Charlie Sheen (2025), MEMOIR – RATING (****)
Honest, heartfelt and revealing. Charlie’s voice is unique, funny and sincere. The story reads like two different books. The first one, about half of the memoir, is interesting with insights of his childhood and then his breakthrough into Hollywood. The second is somber. A detailed journey of his drug, alcohol and hookers downfall.
I would have enjoyed it more if the division was 70/30 instead of 50/50. There was much of his good life missing and too much information of his downfall. He goes into detail about his first steps into movie making and his first two major films that brought his fame: Platoon and Wall Street.
I would have loved to hear more about his other movies and his kids. His first child, Casandra, is mentioned at the beginning of the book and in the epilogue. His other four kids are mostly only mentioned at birth.
Though he’s very open about his problems with drugs, alcoholism and hookers it’s narrated with almost machismo pride than regret. What could have been of his career without these but then, maybe that bad-boy charisma on the big screen was a reflection of how he led his life.
Overall entertaining but I’m a big fan of Charlie Sheen so if it was about anyone else I would have skepticism. Some things seems interpretations of the truth rather than a recount of what probably happened. The high school graduation or lack thereof was one of them.
